The Impression of Being Relaxed: On-Line Diaries 2000–2008 (2008)

The Impression of Being Relaxed: On-Line Diaries 2000–2008 is a book by Steve Harley, released by Halstar in 2008. The 160-page book compiles all of Harley’s online diary entries between 2000 and 2008.

Background

In 2004, Harley revealed that he was in the process of writing a potential autobiography. Although the book did not materialise, he published The Impression of Being Relaxed: On-Line Diaries 2000–2008 in 2008, which compiled the diary entries he had published on his official website between 2000 and 2008. Harley first announced the book in a diary entry dated 1 March 2008. He intended for it to be published to coincide with Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel’s UK tour between May and July 2008, where it could be sold as merchandise. Harley was initially unsure what to call the book, but ultimately settled on “the impression of being relaxed”, which was a phrase he used in his 19 March 2008 diary to describe his role as presenter of the BBC Radio 2 programme Sounds of the 70s: “Presenting radio is not unlike performing, which comes easy to me; always reaching out to perfect the impression of being relaxed.”

Release

The Impression of Being Relaxed was published by Somerset-based self publishers Halstar in May 2008. In addition to being made available at concerts, the book was available to purchase on Harley’s official website.
